What I keep in the pantry

To cook with confidence, it´s essential to have the basic ingredients at home. Some things are necessary for almost everything, every day, though I am sure every family has their own staples. This is my list, the stuff I (almost) always have in the house.

I should say this list is not definitive. It changes a little all the time. I am also of the opinion that no one should have to have hundreds of jars of this and that to make decent, varied food. Simple is best.

Salt, black peppercorns, bay leaves, nutmeg, cinnamon, thyme, marjoram, caraway, paprika. Tabasco, Worchestershire sauce, soy sauce, mustard, tomato paste, vegetable stock cubes, lemon juice, malt vinegar, Maizena (for thickening sauces, etc), Bostongurka (pickled cucumber mix), mango chutney, mayonnaise.

Butter, cream, milk, sour milk, sour cream, cheese, eggs, orange juice.

Rapeseed oil, olive oil, canned tomatoes, canned mushrooms, Bullens korv (sausages in a tin).

Wheat flour, rye flour, sifted rye flour, potato flour, dry milk, caster sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, vanilla, cocoa powder, bread crumbs/raspings, dry yeast, golden syrup, müsli.

Knäckebröd (crisp bread), toast, hot dog rolls, biscuits.

Potatoes, carrots, cucumber, peppers, unions, cooking apples, lingonberry jam, raspberry jam, apple sauce, porridge rice, brown spagetti, dried fruit (raisins, figs, apricots).

Beef & Pork sausages, salmon, reindeer, ham.

Tea (PG Tips), coffee (one or other version of Zoegas), non-alcoholic apple cider, beer, wine (for guests), vodka, gin, arrak punch, tonic.
